The mint-green diesel locomotive 234 304-4 of Deutsche Bahn was a unique experiment of the early 1990s. Originally, it was rebuilt from a Class 232 locomotive for high-speed InterRegio and InterCity services. In the process, it was fitted with bogies taken from withdrawn Class 130 locomotives and upgraded for a top speed of 140 km/h.
When the Class 234 was subsequently intended for increasing use in regional services, 234 304 received a new livery in mint turquoise and light grey, the typical Regionalbahn colours of the time.
This paint scheme, however, remained a one-off: the Class 234 never entered regular regional service. As a result, the mint-green 234 304-4 represents a remarkable piece of railway history — and, as a model, a true standout.
