The diesel-electric CC 72006 of the SNCF CC 72000 class is particularly famous for being the only locomotive of the series to wear the striking blue “Multiservice” (or “Corail +”) livery – a unique, experimental colour scheme.
Nicknamed “Isabelle”, this locomotive received its blue Multiservice paint in 1995 as part of SNCF’s efforts to promote a modern image. The design was intended as a trial for mixed-traffic services, but it was never adopted across the fleet, making CC 72006 a one-of-a-kind and highly coveted subject among railfans and model railway collectors.
Built by Alsthom between 1967 and 1974, the CC 72000 series comprised powerful 3,540 hp locomotives designed to replace steam traction on France’s non-electrified main lines. Most were withdrawn by the late 2000s, yet the CC 72006, thanks to its distinctive livery, remains an enduring favourite among enthusiasts – and a true collector’s gem in model form.
